COVID-19 Outreach

St. Matthew's Church is responding to the needs of our local community during this time in a number of ways, including those listed below:

Financial Giving

St. Matthew's contributes $25,000 annually to local non-profits, focusing especially on those that offer assistance with food and shelter.  By Apr. 26, this year's funds will have been allocated and checks sent to get those resources where they are needed most and in a timely manner.  In addition, this year, the Women of St. Matthew's donated the proceeds from its Art Show: Bedford of approximately $34,000 to local charities including many providing food and shelter.

On top of these, St. Matthew's is also dedicating $25,000 more to support those on the front lines of this pandemic.  By Apr. 26, $10,000 will have been sent to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), $4000 to three local pantries, and $1000 to the Bedford Fire Department to support our local first responders.  $10,000 is being reserved to meet future needs related to COVID-19.

If you would like to join this effort to give toward the NWH COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, food for Hospital medical staff, or first responders, please email Rev. Drew Courtright for more information.

Hands-On Activities

1. POTS Makes Masks: POTS (Part of the Solution) in the Bronx is asking for cloth masks to have available for their clients.  If you would like to make some masks, click here to learn more about POTS Makes Masks and click here for CDC approved directions for making masks.  Masks dropped off at St. Matthew's by Sun., Apr. 26 will be delivered to POTS together.  A donation bin is located outside the Fellowship Room on the playground side.  If you like to purchase masks, they can be shipped to Part of the Solution, 2759 Webster Ave., Bronx, NY 10458.

2.  Cards of Hope for Northern Westchester Hospital: Medical staff and workers at NWH have shared that they love to receive homemade cards and notes of support and encouragement.  This is a great chance for children and families to do something for these saints in scrubs.  (See the picutres for some examples of cards.)  Cards dropped off at St. Matthew's by Sun., Apr. 26 will be delivered to NWH together.  A donation bin is located outside of the Fellowship Room on the playground side.  After that date, cards can be mailed to Northern Westchester Hospital, 400 E.
