A continuing tradition is the “Distinguished Speakers Series.” Throughout the year, St. Matthew’s hosts leaders speaking on their field of expertise covering a variety of topics. Past speakers include: Librarian of Congress James Billington; the CEOs of Lucent and Saks Fifth Avenue; former White House Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer; Senior Fellow at Yale and economist Stephen Roach; executive search consultant Russell Reynolds; author Sally Bedell Smith; and former ambassador to Korea Donald Gregg.
In 2013-14, the series hosted author Jeffrey Small, Joel Seligman, CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital, venture capitalist and internet entrepreneur David Pakman and famed Fortune Magazine journalist Carol Loomis. In 2014-15, guest speakers were Gregory J. Fleming, the President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and President of Morgan Stanley Investment Management; and Jim Brooke, formerly Russian Bureau Chief for Bloomberg News and Voice of America. In 2015-16, we welcomed Pete Bevacqua, CEO of PGA of America and author and journalist David Gelles.
On February 1, 2017we welcomed Fr. Mark Connell, founder of San Miguel Academy in Newburgh, NY who spoke on breaking the cycle of poverty and crime in one of the country's most dangerous cities through education.
On May 8, we will be hosting Dyllan McGee, two-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and Founder and Executive Producer of MAKERS, as well as McGee Media, which has produced such documentaries as Africa's Great Civiliations and Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. She will be speaking on "Rewriting Women into History."
The Series is presented as a community service and the public is welcome. Refreshments are served in the Fellowship Room at 7:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 7:45 p.m.
