St. Mary's was built in 1851 in the Middle Patent area of Bedford as a mission church of St. Matthew 's. In early times, the Rector of St. Matthew's would officiate at a morning service at St. Matthew's then he would go on horseback to perform an afternoon service at St. Mary's

Although St. Matthew's Rector is Rector of both churches, St. Mary's has its own vestry and administrative structure.

Services are held at St. Mary's during the fall and spring and at Thanksgiving and Christmas. These are led by clergy, lay readers and parishioners of St. Matthew's, with diverse civic and religious leaders as guest speakers at each service. Many parishioners have chosen to be baptized or married in this lovely historic church.

The vestry of St. Mary's has scheduled the following services for 2009. As a community church, we welcome people of all persuasions. Please join us for the simple beauty of short evening services in a quiet, rural setting.



Sunday, September 13th, 5:30p.m.	Speaker: Terence Elsberry, Rector, St. Matthew's and St. Mary's Churches
Sunday, October 4th, 5:30 p.m.	Speaker: Gina Sharpe, Founder, New York Insight Meditation Center
Sunday, November 15th, 10:45 a.m.	Special Joint Service at Antioch Baptist Church, Bedford Hills uniting the congregations of St. Mary's, St. Matthew's and Antioch Baptist. Speakers: The Rev. Paul Briggs and The Rev. Terry Elsberry
Wednesday, November 25th, 6:30 pm	Thanksgiving Eve Service, Speaker: Philip Kunhardt, Author and producer of historical documentaries and books for PBS and other networks.
Wednesday, December 23rd, 6:00 p.m.	Traditional carol service and reading of the Christmas story, with the Rev. Paul Briggs and members of the Antioch Baptist Church .
