Adult Classes

The great Anglican theologian Evelyn Underhill once wrote (in a letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury!) that “God is the interesting thing about religion.” At St. Matthew’s, we couldn’t agree more. We think God is endlessly interesting, and so we prioritize Christian education not just for children but for adults as well. Below are just a few of our typical offerings for adults who want to talk about the most interesting topic around.

Bible Study

The Rev. John Zahl leads Bible Study each Wednesday at 11 a.m. in-person in the Vestry Room. Recent studies have included Genesis, The Acts of the Apostles, and the Gospel according to Matthew. Come with a Bible in hand and enjoy some coffee, cookies, and a rich discussion of God’s grace in the pages of Scripture.

Women's Bible Study

The Rev. Patty Dhar leads an Women's Bible Study on Tuesday mornings at 9:15 a.m in the Vestry Room. This study will explore specific Scripture, beginning with the book of Esther. Join us with a Bible, hungry spirit, and open heart.

Film Series

The Rev. John Zahl leads an annual Lenten Film Series at the Bedford Playhouse, one of the highlights of the year. It features a curated list of films dealing with themes of faith, grace, and the reality of God in the midst of human life. Each film is followed by a talk back with John.

Adults Christian Education Class

Most Sundays during the program year we offer classes, on various theological topics, typically taught by our clergy, at 9:00am. Past classes have covered things like Lord’s Prayer, the history and theology of The Book of Common Prayer, a short introduction Christian theology, the 39 Articles of Religion, and how to use the hymnal.
