Our Service Music Program

Sacred music at St. Matthew's Church is a core element of our worship. Indeed, at our church, music is a ministry of its own. Music enlivens our religious experience and provides an integral spiritual dimension to the liturgy.

St. Matthew’s Choir

The resident choir of St. Matthew’s is a semi-professional group that accompanies all 10 AM services from September through May, including additional major Holy Days. The choir also sings the office of Evensong, offered for notable Feasts throughout the church year. On special occasions, the choir is joined by string quartet and other instrumentalists.

The choir’s repertoire is broad, encompassing sacred works from antiquity through those of living composers. Under the direction of Jacob Gruss, gifted parishioners offer genuine praise to God through music that reflects the spirit of St. Matthew’s Church.

Organ Music

St. Matthew’s gallery organ, Russell & Co. Op. 31, is a two manual, 29 rank instrument that accompanies all services inside the church. Service music and repertoire are performed to the highest standards, and help set the stage for the celebration of worship.
